CHI St. Gabriel's Health : St. Camillus Place

Serving Individuals and the Community

St. Camillus Place, founded by the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls in 1984, has grown and changed throughout the years but we strive to continue to meet the original mission set forth by the Franciscan Sisters each and every day. The purpose of St. Camillus Place is to provide a home-like environment and encourage independent living for individuals with intellectual disabilities age 15 and older. This includes: a) providing services to each individual according their specific needs, b) providing individuals with patterns of life as close as possible to that of the community in which they live, c) involving the individuals in the community and the community in the activities of St. Camillus Place and d) encouraging family involvement to benefit the individuals and their families. St. Camillus Place also serves as a community resource on individuals with intellectual disabilities, providing education and information to interested persons. We encourage the community to become a part of our extended family. Each year our Advisory Board hosts several events with the intent to bring together individuals, families and community members. These events include; “Spring Magic” a dinner and dance for individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout Morrison county and their family and friends, “Feast of St. Camillus,” which is a family picnic/potluck each summer and a Christmas Party.

Individualized Programs

St. Camillus Place is licensed by the state of Minnesota as an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID). Programs are designed to help each individual achieve the skills necessary to live, work and spend leisure time as independently as possible. During the week, individuals attend school, go to work or participate in a retirement program. At home, St. Camillus Place provides individuals with services and programming unique to their own individual needs, talents, dreams and wishes. Sometimes individuals exhibit behaviors or have difficulty communicating which requires a unique approach in order to achieve their maximum potential. We believe that in order to understand the individuals who live here, you must try to see the world as they do and only then develop an approach which will meet their unique needs.

Staff members are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition to direct care staff St. Camillus Place, employs a Qualified Intellectual disabilities professional (QIDP) and a Registered Nurse (RN) consultant. All staff members are trained to focus on understanding the individual preferences and needs of those who live here, helping them to build skills while balancing health and safety. We also have a Medical Director and Advisory Board who provide guidance and support to continue to practice the original mission. St. Camillus Place has convenient access to important support services, such as St. Gabriel’s Hospital, physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, a dentist, pharmacy and social services.
